Frequently Asked Questions

General

POGOH is Pittsburgh’s bikeshare system. Bikeshare is meant for residents, students, and visitors to take short trips around Pittsburgh. Customers can choose a pricing plan that works for them and proceed to rent, ride, and return bicycles from official POGOH stations throughout the city. POGOH was formerly named Healthy Ride, but underwent a complete equipment replacement and rebrand in 2022. POGOH is owned and operated by Bike Share Pittsburgh, a 501c3 non-profit located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.

No. Customers can register on POGOH.com or by calling Customer Support. Mobility Justice Members will receive a Membership Card at registration, and all other customers can request a card for a fee by contacting Customer Support. Tap your Membership Card on the dock of any bike you wish to rent to unlock.

Pedal bikes are traditional self-propelled bicycles.

E-assist bicycles still require the rider to pedal, but an electric motor automatically activates to assist the rider while climbing hills and getting started after a stop. Trust us, it’s awesome.

Bike Rentals & Returns

Choose the rental option that works best for you:

Rent using PBSC app: Scan the QR code on any bicycle to unlock

Rent using Membership Card: Tap your Membership Card on the right side of of the dock to unlock a bike

No. Customers cannot reserve bikes.

Annual Members, Mobility Justice Members, and Day Pass users can rent 1 bike at a time.

Single Ride customers can check out up to 4 bikes in a single transaction.

Please do not attempt to fix the bike, our mechanics will! Immediately secure the bike in the nearest POGOH dock and press the wrench button on the dock or use the Report a Problem feature in the PBSC app.

Riders may use a personal lock when making temporary stops. Rental time will continue to accrue unless the bike is secured back at a POGOH dock.

To return POGOH bikes, simply slide the bike into an available dock and wait for the green light to confirm the bike is locked. If you receive a red light, your bike has not returned. Pull the bike out of the dock and try again.

If you do not receive a green light when attempting to lock your bike at a station, please try these steps:

  • Firmly push the bike all the way in the dock.
  • Try lifting the bike a little as you dock it
  • Try a different dock or station.
  • Call Customer Support at 412-595-9421. Do not leave your bike unlocked if you can’t dock it. Extra fees may apply depending on your pass.

All bikes must be returned at official POGOH stations. You can either wait for someone to come and rent a bike or you can ride to another station with an open dock. You can see real time dock availability on the PBSC app.

All bikes must be returned to official POGOH stations and properly locked into an available dock. Failure to return a POGOH bike at an official POGOH station will result in additional rental charges, bike location fees, and if a bike cannot be located, the customer is responsible for the cost of bike replacement. Failure to return bikes properly may also result in a locked account.

We rely on our customers to use the system as it was designed so that we can continue to provide a reliable service.

Contact Customer Support immediately by calling 412-595-9421. If possible, return to the station to secure the bike properly and confirm the return with the PBSC app under Trips. Bikes that are not returned properly will result in additional charges.

Standard Winter Weather Procedure

Winter weather conditions may affect the functionality of the POGOH system. While we can anticipate and respond to winter weather as conditions arise, we want our riders to be safe and prepared for all of the different winter scenarios. Visit our Winter Weather Advisory page for full details. Remember, you can report unsafe routes to Pittsburgh’s 311 Response Center. If you do choose to ride during inclement weather, please ride safely. Visit our Winter Weather Riding Tips for more information.

Extreme Winter Weather

Safety is a top priority to POGOH. If weather conditions threaten the safety of our riders, we will temporarily suspend service for all customers. Bikes already in use at the time of closure can be returned to any POGOH  station. In the event that Pittsburgh receives a storm of any kind that may interfere with the safety of our riders and will result in a full system closure, we will notify all of our registered users via our newsletter and the homepage of the POGOH website. If you want to ensure you are subscribed to our newsletter, simply check your account settings by logging into your account via the PBSC app or POGOH.com. To receive real-time closures and openings, follow us via Facebook and Twitter.

If you are involved in a crash and someone is injured or there is any type of property damage to the bicycle or other vehicles, call the police (9-1-1). Once you have a police report, you will need the officer’s name, the names of all persons involved, and a copy of the report. Please call Customer Support to follow up, (412) 595-9421. You are responsible for riding safely and for returning bikes in good condition. Please read our Terms and Conditions for more information on our liability policy.

If your bike is missing, please contact POGOH’s Customer Support.  You must do this within 24 hours. Your bike is your responsibility until it is successfully locked at an official POGOH station. If a rider fails to report an unlocked or missing bike, a fee will be assessed to cover the cost of recovery. If we are unable to recover a bike, you will be billed for the replacement of the bicycle.

If you know that your bike is stolen, please contact the police. Once you receive a police report number, call POGOH’s Customer Support at 412-595-9421.

Costs, Memberships, & Fees

Are there overage fees? What will I be charged if I go over time?

Should you exceed your allotted ride time, you’ll be charged $0.19 per minute on pedal bikes and $0.32 per minute on e-assist bikes until they are secured back in a POGOH dock.

E-assist bicycles require charging and additional maintenance. We wanted to keep pedal bikes affordable, and make sure we reflected the additional cost to operate e-assist bikes in our new pricing model. The additional charge is applicable for Single Ride passes and standard overage fees.

You can redeem a promo code during sign up or by logging into your account on either the PBSC App or website and applying it to your account.

No, you cannot combine memberships on a single account. To rent multiple bikes, a secondary account can be created for the Single Ride pass that will allow you to choose up to 4 bike rentals at once.

Yes, members can order a card for $5 +tax that will be invoiced to your POGOH account. Mobility Justice members are eligible to receive a membership card for free.

You can cancel your membership at any time by contacting Customer Support, or you can cancel your renewal on the PBSC app or website

You can immediately rent another bike and keep riding!
