Bike Share Pittsburgh, the nonprofit operator of POGOH bikeshare sponsored by Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, celebrated the launch of a new bike program today called Adaptive POGOH. Adaptive POGOH creates access to cycling for people of all abilities and includes a fleet of seven unique cycles to suit a variety of riders. The fleet includes a tandem bicycle, a hand tricycle, an adult tricycle, a low-step through bicycle, a cargo bicycle, a side-by-side tricycle, and a recumbent bicycle. Adaptive POGOH is located at the Eliza Furnace Trailhead Lot and is a free service that’s open to the public every Sunday and Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM through September. Reservations can be made in advance, and walk-ups are accepted pending availability.

Our adaptive fleet is ready to help residents and visitors explore our City!”

After over 9 years of operations, Bike Share Pittsburgh has served over 100,000 customers, and facilitated over 1 million rides. Adaptive POGOH will operate separately from the traditional POGOH network, offering riders a personalized experience at a single location on the Eliza Furnace Trail. The Adaptive POGOH bike fleet is intended to broaden the offerings of bikeshare to include people who are not currently served by the traditional bikes currently in the station-based bikeshare fleet, and build more opportunities for more people to ride.

“Highmark Bright Blue Futures is dedicated to healthier, brighter and stronger futures for all,” said Kenya T. Boswell, senior vice president of Community Affairs at Highmark Health. “We are proud to support POGOH Bikeshare in this healthy activity, giving people of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy bicycle trips in our beautiful city.”
