June Community Bike Rides – The Bike Riding Season is Back!

June is here, and with it comes some of the best weather for getting on a bike and going on an adventure! Here at POGOH we are planning some cool community bike rides to keep you active all month long. We have 5 upcoming rides that our Ambassadors and staff are crafting to show you all the hidden gems in the Burgh.    All group rides are FREE and open to the public. All of the routes are designed to fit all different rider “levels” so you’ll have fun if you’re an avid cyclist or just getting back on a back for the first time in years. No one gets left behind!

June 2022 POGOH Community Rides:

“Hills on the Hill” PMTCC Ambassador Ride

Monday, June 6th @ 6pm
Ride Start/End: Centre Ave & Addison St
Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club will take us for a fun ride in The Hill District starting at our Centre Ave & Addison St Station by the Thelma Lovette YMCA We will visit some secret gems in The Hill District, a historically Black neighborhood, nestled in the heart of Pittsburgh. We will visit art, gardens, and green space! This is a slow paced ride and we will wait for everyone.  

Ride to Three Rivers Arts Festival

Thursday, June 9th @ 5pm
Ride starts: South Side Trail & S 4th St
Ride ends: 10th St & Penn Ave
  The Three Rivers Arts Festival is happening and we are riding our bikes from The Southside to Downtown to enjoy two-time GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter-producer Eric Krasno as he performs along with The Assembly at the Dollar Bank stage on 9th St.  
We will ride from our South Side Trail & S 4th St station by the Color Park to the Hot Metal Bridge using the Southside Neighghborway, a rider friendly option parallel to E Carson St. Once we cross the river, we will head downtown using the Eliza Furnace “Jail Trail” and stopping at the Point for a quick photo before heading back on the trail along the river towards the Convention Center, where our 10th St & Penn Ave POGOH station is located.

Juneteen Homecoming Ride 

Friday, June 17th @ 10am
Ride Starts: Centre Ave & Addison St
Ride ends: Liberty & Stanwix
Juneteenth is the celebration of the end of American chattel slavery and is now a Federal Holiday and we want to celebrate it with you at Point State Park. Part of the cultural activities include live bands, speakers, vendors l kids-fun-zone and more.   We will start our journey from our Centre Ave & Addison St POGOH station by the Thelma Lovette YMCA in The Hill District. From there we will circle around the neighborhood and will go down the hill on Bedford Ave & Crawford St until we reach Fifth Ave. Once we reach Downtown we will take the Andy Warhol Bridge and will do a loop around the Allegheny Circle in The Northside and our last stop is the station by the Gateway train station on Liberty Ave and Stanwix St. After parking our POGOH bikes we will then go enjoy the show!  

Steel Rite Rollers Ambassador Ride

Sunday, June 19th @ 10am
Ride start/End: Penn Ave & S Whitfield Station
Steel Rite Rollers Bike Club, one of our 2022 Community Ambassadors, is organizing a cool ride in East Liberty. Their goal is to bring the community together for a roll around the coolest spots the East end neighborhoods have to offer. This ride will start and end at our Penn Ave & S Whitfield Station.  

Lunch Break Ride

Wednesday, June 22nd @ 11am
Ride start/End: Forbes & Market
If you are around Downtown and are hoping to release some stress from the everyday work at the office, use your lunch break time and join us on a ride around the city. We will start at our POGOH station at Market Square. We will ride around some streets and bike lanes in the city before heading to the Point and crossing the Duquesne Bridge to hop on the Northside trail for a car free and relaxing roll to the 31st St Bridge where we will connect back to the city and will make our way back across the Strip District.
